About Us

Trunk Call-The Wild Life Foundation was founded by Anand Shinde in the year 2014. Trunk Call is dedicated to the conservation of elephants (captive, wild & other wildlife) and their habitats across various regions by employing methods in research, education and training. We strive to have a sustainable future for elephants and a harmonious coexistence for elephant and human communities. In India, elephants are loved and revered. Therefore it is all the more important that elephants need to be understood even better. Anand Shinde started his work with elephants in Kerala state in the year 2012 which has given him immense insight into their behaviour to work full time in elephant conservation. The organisation Trunk Call The Wildlife Foundation was formed in 2014.

He has used his knowledge to calm traumatized elephants . Kerala Forest Department had allowed him to give a presentation on elephant behaviour, especially of the baby elephants towards their keepers, to senior forest officials . Anand Shinde has also done a presentation on his experiences with Kerala elephants at IIT, Mumbai. Anand has developed this ability to communicate with the elephant over the last few years by observing the elephant ears, eyes, trunk explorations, and hearing their rumbling sounds. It is high time the people of India realized how crucial the well-being of elephants is for their existence. Trunk Call – The Wildlife Foundation’s aim is to have a sustainable future for elephants and a harmonious coexistence for wildlife and human communities.

Elephants are a key animal in biodiversity. We can positively say that this animal will help us in changing the climate. Anand’s extensive work and interaction with the forest department and various authorities, he has realized the urgency for creating awareness on elephant behaviour and patterns. This is how the journey of Trunk Call-The Wildlife Foundation began. In the collaboration with the Kerala Forest Department Trunk Call – The Wildlife Foundation has worked to keep the elephants out of stress and trauma. We had got permission to work in all elephant centres in Kerala. It was a yearlong project signed. We have done a project for elephant handlers of Kerala state forest department. Later on we worked for the elephants in Karnataka and on request we visited Chennai too.

Currently we are working in the Man-elephant conflict in Maharashtra and Karnataka border and at the same time helping in the Government Elephant Camp in Kamlapur in Gadchiroli also. In the coming future we will be expanding our programs for better life for the elephants. In the 2019 floods in Kolhapur and Sangli, Trunk Call The Wildlife Foundation helped with 40 tonnes of cattle feed to Herwad and Vakare villages. In 2018 Trunk Call The Wildlife Foundation had helped with 10 tonnes of cattle feed to Kerala and also helped 11 out of 12 Panchayats in Ranni and Kottayam district. In the year 2020 in Tadoba forest our founder Anand Shinde has calmed down the rogue elephant Gajraj who killed his handler and released him back to the forest. This he did only through using communication without using a stick. He also trained handlers for elephant Gajraj.

From day one of lockdown Trunk Call The Wildlife Foundation gave food support for the 80 plus street dogs. Due to no tourism, 4000 elephants were in trouble in Thailand so Trunk Call sent funds to Save Elephant Foundation for food support . We also Rescued horse which was stuck under a buggy. We also supported flood affected areas in Chandrapur district, Arher Navargao village from Bramhapuri Taluka, which was adopted by Trunk Call . The Odisha State Forest Department called Anand Shinde to calm down rogue Rakesh Elephant who had killed 15 people. In 2021, We donated 22.5 tonnes of cattle feed in Chiplun Taluka & Khed Taluka Flood relief . (Donations will get Income tax Exemption under 80G)
